چکیده
As global temperatures rise, flooding and storm surges caused by extreme weather threaten people’s safety nations’ development. Nature-based Solutions (NBS) are practical actions to support resilience reduce flood risk applied in many countries. the NBS approach mentions, small check dams made of gabion wood can retain runoff temporarily create detention basins magnitude floods provide additional water resources. However, previous dam suitability research emphasized criteria selection decision method evolution, which costs time on complex calculation does not fit dams. This aims optimize site workflow vulnerable informal settlements utilizing Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE). Several thematic layers, such as land use, river density, building distance, vegetation cover index, slope, elevation factors, were chosen identify suitable area Mataniko catchment, Honiara. More importantly, it provides a more efficient model builder that be replicated ArcGIS 10.8, contributes visualizing scenarios inundation at different heights. result, this study tested up 35 potential with 2.5 5 m wall height flood-prone Vara Creek selected nine 15 best locations according volume area. Overall, is an tool for designers communicate stakeholders applies other developing countries facing frequent floods. Moreover, prototype evidence action address issue.
